It was the fifth win in a row for the Mustangs, who are undefeated this season and sitting solidly atop the Tier IV rankings.
I caught up with Senior Mustangs Head Coach Peter Brannen after the Bantam Mustangs successful outing against the Claresholm Raiders, where he was helping out. "Last night, the guys played real, hard-nosed football," Coach Brannen said of his Senior team. "They played with a lot of heart, they played with a lot of spirit, they supported each other. The score could have been a bit higher, but we had a few guys banged up."
"Great defense, great tackling," he continued. "We covered our guys on defense, offense moved the ball, it was just a good team effort. They're playing as a unit. they're playing with all brothers, and they're doing their jobs."
Injuries have been an issue for the Senior Mustangs, but they haven't allowed it to slow their momentum this season. They act like a team determined to take it all the way.
"I have guys filling in for all kinds of spots," Coach Brannen said. "They just step in and fill spots. I have little slotbacks playing guard, or tackle sometimes, when the need arises. You know something, they're doing just fine."
"We have a couple of exhibition games coming up. Next week it's Canmore, the week after that Olds is here, on a Saturday, and we'll see what happens there. We'll be playing the winner of Kate Andrews and Willow Creek for the right to go to the Provincial Playdowns. We finished first (in our tier), that's why we got the bye through the playoff round, and then we'll take on the winner of the Kate Andrews and Willow Creek game and who ever wins that goes on to the Provincials."
"I'm very proud of the team, and how they've come together."
